The Access Initiative-TAI
The Access Initiative (TAI) is an international network of over 150 Civil
Society Groups that began in 1999, committed to ensuring the people have a voice in the decisions that affect their environment and their communities. The network partners of TAI promote transparent, participatory, and accountable governance as an essential foundation for sustainable development.
To achieve this goal, partners form national coalitions, use a common method, called TAI Assessment, to assess government progress, raise public awareness, and set priorities for improvements in policy and practice.

The new T
AI India coalition was formed on 5th April 2009, now comprised of over 30 Civil Society Groups and individuals across the country. Legal Initiative for Forest & Environment-LIFE and Environics Trust serve as TAI India Secretariat. LIFE also serves as a core team member for South Asia.
In 2008, TAI India did the TAI-Assessment for the states of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh and formed ‘TAI Himalayan Coalition’. This resulted in a report called ‘Environmental Democracy in the Himalayas’. As a follow up, TAI India, is working with local partners to ensure access rights.
